On the plains of the Serengeti, Jake the black rhinoceros is beginning to realize that his idyllic life is under threat. He talks about the relationship between man and nature with Reuben, another black rhinoceros. Suddenly, they hear poachers . . .

Bang ! Bang ! Bang ! Reuben is shot, killed and de-horned. Jake escapes. Shocked by Reuben's murder, he begins to recognize how fragile his world has become and it occurs to him, that he could be the last of his kind . . .
